LEARNING to make a difference

Brockholes Nature Reserve

To develop our map skills, we went on an exciting trip to Brockholes Nature Reserve.

We learned how to accurately read different types of maps and recapped our knowledge of OS symbols and grid references.

We then used maps of the local area to practice our orienteering with the staff to find the Deep Dark Wood. Once we located the correct area, we then worked in groups to search the area for hidden statues.

In the afternoon, we then worked in smaller groups to independently practice our orienteering skills. The Brockholes staff had a box of treasure that we needed a specific code to unlock it. We had to find the numbers around Brockholes using the map and then race to find the staff to unlock the treasure.
