Revd David Cooper - Team Rector

Introducing Revd David Cooper... If we are made up of the people we’ve met, the things we’ve done and the places we’ve lived in, then I think I must be a pretty complicated person. I’ve lived in Middlesbrough, Coventry, Nottingham, Girlington in Bradford, York, Holmewood in Bradford, Bingley, Peshawar in Pakistan, Pollard Park in Bradford, Harborne in Birmingham, Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent, Wolverhampton, Arnside in Cumbria and now here in Walkden and Little Hulton... and I’m only 23 (that’s possibly a joke!) I’ve been married to Caroline for 29 years, have three grown-up daughters, Naomi, Abi and Beth, a dog called Teddy, two cats called Gus and Tanzy. Naomi has a rabbit, and Beth with her partner Lewis, is going to have a daughter in December! The only person mentioned above not living in the Vicarage on Algernon Road is Abi, who is studying for an MA. at York Uni. Because we are rattling around this house, we are also considering becoming foster carers. I think there is a spare inch in the corner upstairs. Like Abi, I was also at York Uni, when 32 years ago I got a maths degree. Since then I have been a maths and computing teacher with the Church Mission Society in Peshawar, a licenced Lay Worker in inner-city Bradford, and then with a Birmingham Uni theology degree under my belt, a curate in Burslem, a Team Vicar in central Wolverhampton, an Urban Spirituality Officer in Wolverhampton, an Inter-Faith Officer in the Diocese of Lichfield, a vicar in Arnside and an Ecumenical Officer in Cumbria. Now I am known as a Team Rector. My key passions are seeking ways of being more Christ-like, teaching and learning, communicating faith and love, working with schools, supporting team building, and proper coffee. I’ve been a chair of Governors in a number of schools of different sorts, big and small. Many things lead me to delight and wonder and I love sharing these things with the world around me. I look forward to meeting you!

For wedding enquiries contact our lay reader Jim Howell on 0161 950 1769 and he will arrange for you to come to church where he will take your details, advise you of the cost and ask when you would like to be married. Jim is a governor at school.

If you have suffered a bereavement and would like to talk or arrange a funeral at St Paul’s, Rev. David is available for this pastoral visit. Or for any other personal matter that is troubling you all Church members always available as a listening ear and for prayer if required.

Our church services are on Sunday at 10.30am.

1^st Sunday all-age worship

2^nd Sunday Holy Communion

3^rd Sunday Morning Prayer with Jim Howell

4^th Sunday Holy Communion

We also have a service of Holy Communion at 8am on Sunday which is from the Book of Common Prayer (old language)

Children

ACTS (adults and children together) meet on the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th Sundays in term time for adults and their pre-school children to learn together. This is led by Jackie Woods.

Junior church also meets as above for children aged 5 and above. This is led by Kath Jackson and Gill Culshaw.

Tots at 2 meet on Fridays in church led by Suzanne Hunt. Drinks, craft, story and chit chat. Get to meet others with babies and toddlers. It finishes in time to pick up other children from school.
