LEARNING to make a difference

English

Autumn 1

At the beginning of this term, we read the story Stuck by Oliver Jeffers and fell in love with the character Floyd and his clumsiness! It all started when Floyd got his kite stuck in a tree... whenever Floyd tried to get it down by throwing something else up at it, UNBELIEVABLY they each got stuck too!

We focused on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops correctly in our sentence writing.

We also learnt how to use the conjunctions 'and' and 'but' to extend our sentences.

Here is a selection of our fantastic retells of the story Stuck!

Autumn 2

We read a book called The Queen's Hat.

We will explore lots of interesting vocabulary and make word banks for adjectives and nouns.

We will then progress onto building expanded noun phrases which we will put into simple sentences.

Spring 1

We read a folk tale called Anansi the Spider.

We learnt the tale through talk for writing and created our own folk tales based on the story of Anansi.

All the Year 2 staff are super proud of their hard work.

We also visited Knowsley Safari Park and we wrote a recount of our trip.

We all had a fantastic time and they were excited to share what they got up to with those reading their work!

Spring 2

We have just began reading the book called Vlad and the Great Fire of London.

Vlad and Boxton have told us all about the fire that they survived and we are now look after them in our classrooms!!
