Year 1 ~ Maths Task 1

Recap

This week in Maths we are going to be learning about counting, in particular, using larger numbers.

 

Above is a 100 square which can help you with your counting.

 

Activity 1

Using the 100 square:

  1. Count forwards from 80 to 95.
  2. Count backwards from 74 to 65.
  3. Write down all of the numbers that go between 75 and 81.
  4. Find what number comes between 46 and 48.

 

Activity 2

Look around the house for some objects that you can count: this will need to be a lot (about 100) so something like Lego bricks, beads, straws or stones would be ideal.

Counting each individual piece would be quite time consuming and loosing track is easy to do, so grouping your items into groups of ten is easier and much more efficient.

Practise grouping your objects into groups of ten then counting in tens to see how many you have like in my examples to follow.  

Count up your groups of ten by counting in tens. Remember to count the ones seperately. Try lots of different combinations and take turns at making some for your grown ups.

A part-whole model is a different way of breaking the numbers apart.

We’re going to break them into tens and ones again.

The red sticks represent tens and the blue squares represent ones.  The left model is in picture form and the right is the same thing but using numerals.
