Week 5
Task 1
Arithmetic starter
- 3 x 0 =
- 8 x 2 =
- 6 x 5 =
- 8 x 10 =
- 3 x 3 =
- 5 x 4 =
- 7 x 8 =
Task 2
Fact families.
Fact families are a group of equations that all use the same three numbers. These fact families tell the multiplication and division calculations.
For example:
3 x 4 = 12
4 x 3 = 12
12 ÷ 3 = 4
12 ÷ 4 = 3
Create the fact families for the following sums. Sometimes I have given you the multiplication but sometimes I have given you the division. You have to make the other three sums that go in that fact family.
- 2 x 4 = 8
- 8 x 5 = 40
- 70 ÷ 10 = 7
- 4 x 5 = 20
- 7 x 4 = 28
- 8 x 8 = 64
- 16 ÷ 4 = 4
- 7 x 5 = 35
- 9 x 8 =72
- 32 ÷ 4 = 8
Task 3
Division facts
For this task, I would like you to write the division facts for the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
For example: here are the division facts for the 2 times tables.
24 ÷ 2 = 12
22 ÷ 2 = 11
20 ÷ 2 = 10
18 ÷ 2 = 9
16 ÷ 2 = 8
14 ÷ 2 = 7
12 ÷ 2 = 6
10 ÷ 2 = 5
8 ÷ 2 = 4
6 ÷ 2 = 3
4 ÷ 2 = 2
2 ÷ 2 = 1
Now you try with the 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
Task 4
Use your division knowledge to answer these word problems.
- Miss Parkinson has 12 apples. She shares these apples equally between 4 people. How many apples do the people get each?
- There are 18 sweets in the cupboard. 3 children share the sweets out equally. How many do they get each?
- There are 32 passengers on a train. There are 4 train carriages. How many passengers are on each carriage?
- There are 16 children and they are sorted equally into 4 teams. How many children are in each team?
