LEARNING to make a difference

Week 4

Year 1 ~ Phonics

This week your focus is the /oa/oe/ sound.

Here are some video links to help your learning all about the /oa/ sound:

Ideas to help you:

Here is an online game where you can sort the /igh / and /oa/words:

https://standalone.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk_sa/sa_item62767_0/subject/module/activity/item801534/gradef/module62767/index.html

*To access the long link to espresso: follow it and then part way down the dialogue box stating 'Access Denied' are the underlined words 'free resources'. Click there and it will take you to the Discovery Learning home page. On there, find the 'Phonics' area then find the sound we are working on (oa) ~ there are videos and games.*

Make your own games:

Last week we introduced the game of writing words with a particular sound on plastic balls for a ball pit. If you have them you could add more words to it for this week’s sounds and sort the words when you find and read them.

There are also some ready-made tasks to print and complete if you’d like them.

Year 1: Phonics challenge oa / oe

Can you fill in the correct spelling for the words below with either ‘oa’ or ‘oe’ ?

Example:

Soap

Can you read the sentence below?

I hurt my toe when I scored a goal.
