LEARNING to make a difference

Week 2

Spelling activity

This week’s spelling rule is recapping and adding the suffix -ed, -ing, -s, -es, -ness, -ful, -less, -ly.

A suffix is a group of letters added on to the end of a word to make a new word with a different meaning.

Get an adult to read the following sentences to you. When you have finished writing them, check that all the words are spelt correctly.

  • He hops and skips and smiles on his way to school.
  • I am hoping that when Jo hopped, she didn’t hurt her knee.
  • We are phoning the school and stopping the sharing of lollies.

  • Practise writing these words out neatly using your joined handwriting.
  • Practise spelling them using the look, say, cover, write and check technique or use another technique like the pyramid one.
  • Try to use them in a sentence.
  • Ask someone to test you on them on Friday.
