Week 2

This week’s spelling rule is adding the prefix super-, anti- and auto-.

 

A prefix is a group of letters added on to the front of a word to make a new word with a different meaning. It is important to understand the definitions of prefixes because they help us to figure out the meanings of any new words that we learn.

 

super means greater or above.

anti means against or opposite of.

auto means self or own.

 

E.g. super + natural = supernatural (greater than normal natural powers)

anti + freeze = antifreeze (a liquid that can be added to water to stop it freezing)

auto + graph = autograph (written by the person themselves)
