LEARNING to make a difference

Week 10

Year 1 – Writing Task 1

Remember to complete the Grammar task before you start the writing tasks.

Using the picture below, complete my sentences by copying them out in your neatest handwriting and adding the /est/.

The pins are the sharp            materials.

The string is the long       material.

The sponge is the soft      material.

The pencil is the smooth        material.

The toothbrush is the rough       material.

The elastic band is the light       material.

You can write your own sentence instead or make mine more interesting using adjectives. Just remember the /est/.

Year 1 – Writing Task 2

Remember to complete the Grammar task before you start the writing tasks.

Below is a picture from our Story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Using the picture and the wordbank below, I will compare their sizes using the /er/ and /est/ suffixes.

Baby Bear is the smallest bear. Goldilocks is taller than Baby Bear but shorter than Mummy and Daddy Bear. Mummy Bear is smaller than Daddy Bear but taller than Baby Bear and Goldilocks. Daddy Bear is the tallest of them all.

Now it’s your turn: compare the houses of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ using the /er/ and /est/ suffixes.

Use the example above to help you with ideas for you sentences. I will start you off.

The straw house is the weakest house.

Year 1 – Writing Task 3

Remember to complete the Grammar task before you start the writing tasks.

Using the template like this, write a post card to Mummy Pig telling her about the houses you built.

You can choose to be one of the Three Pigs, and start it by writing ‘Dear Mummy Pig’.

The template document can be found at the bottom of the page.

Remember to include all of the things you have been learning about over the past few weeks:

Once you have written your postcard you can draw a picture on the front.
