This week's spelling rule is words that end with the suffix -ful or -less.
Rule
The suffix - ful has one L unlike the word full.
You can add the suffix to the root word.
e.g. hope + ful = hopeful
hope + less = hopeless
But if the root word ends in a 'y', change the 'y' to an 'i' and then add the suffix.
beauty + ful = beautiful
penny + less = penniless
Task
Follow the rule and add the suffixes to the following words.
help + ful =
dread + ful =
truth + ful =
plenty + ful =
wonder + ful =
fear + less =
pain + less =
count + less =
speech + less =
sense + less =
Extension
Can you think of 5 more words that end in the suffix -ful or -less?
