This week's spelling rule is words that end with the suffix -ly, -ive or -ity.
Rule
Suffixes are letters that can be added to the end of words to change their meaning.
Adding the suffix -ly turns an adjective into an adverb.
E.g. 'nice' becomes 'nicely'
If the word ends with 'y', the 'y' becomes an 'i', and then add -ly.
E.g. 'happy' becomes 'happily'
If the word ends with 'le', drop the 'le' and add -ly.
E.g. 'terrible' becomes 'terribly'
Adding the suffix -ive turns nouns and verbs into adjectives.
E.g. 'support' becomes 'supportive'
If the word ends with a 'e', take off the 'e' and then add 'ive'.
E.g. 'narrate' becomes 'narrative'
Adding the suffix -ity turns an adjective into a noun.
E,g, 'real' becomes 'reality'
If the word ends in 'ous', the 'u' is dropped to create the suffix 'osity'.
E.g. 'curious' becomes 'curiosity'
If the word ends in 'e', take off the 'e' before adding 'ity'.
E.g. 'possible' becomes 'possibility'

slow + ly =
like + ly =
faithful + ly =
act + ive =
