Maple 1's learning journey

Welcome to Maple 1's learning journey!!

We have been super busy this Spring term. Take a look at our class photos.

Spring 2

Our first student of the week is...

Science workshop

During the workshop, we learnt about earthquakes and explored different types of rocks by sorting them into groups. They then took part in a hands-on activity where they created layers of rock using gravel, sand, and chalk, helping them understand how rock layers form over time.

Take a look at some photos down below!

English

In English, an unusual trail of baked beans and a beanstalk was found in the classroom. Maple 1 straight away compared the trail to the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been enjoying reading Jack and the Baked Beanstalk! We are learning to write a diary entry in the role of Jack, describing the castle at the top of the beanstalk.

Spring 1

Well done to all our fabulous Y3 runners who represented our school in the Salford Schools Cross Country races!

You all did St. Paul's proud!!!

Our week 1, 2, 3 and 4 students of the week were...

Science

We took part in a science workshop focused on light, examining how shadows are formed and how different colours can be produced using torches.

Art revisit

We revisited our learning about artist Andy Goldsworthy. We created some artwork that linked our learning about the Stone Age and Andy Goldsworthy together. Have a look at our artwork!

Maths

In Maple 1, we LOVE maths.

Last week, we were busy recapping our Year 2 learning on making equal groups and writing repeated addition to enable us to work out the answer to multiplication sums.

We have also been working hard to solve word problems.

We have been busy estimating answers to addition and subtraction sums.

Computing

This week, we have been busy storytelling on Scratch.

Last week, we were busy exploring Scratch. We learnt what a 'Sprite' is and how to make a Sprite move. We also learnt what algorithms are and what coding is.

RE

In RE, we have been discussing why the Bible is important for Christians today. We learnt two knowledge nuggets. The Bible is divided into books, chapters, versus and arranged into two 'testaments' and the Bible helps to teach Christians how to live a Christian life.

Anti-bullying performance and workshop

We had a special visit from Altru Drama who wanted to teach us all about anti-bullying. We watched a very interesting performance before taking part in a workshop where we discussed how to act in certain scenarios.

Geography - Mountains

In our final lesson, we learnt about the mountain rescue service. We used the skills we had learnt to rescue Maple 2 who got stuck up Scafell Pike!!! Here are some photos from our rescue.

Freddie Fit

We had Freddie Fit join us for a fun and energetic workout session. The children were challenged with burpees and squats, and they all had a fantastic time!

Learning Assembly

Maple 1 put on a wonderful learning performance to showcase all they have achieved this term. From start to finish, every child worked incredibly hard and did so with a smile on their face. They shared their knowledge about the Stone Age, mountains, magnets, forces, and more! They also performed their fantastic Talk for Writing piece, which supported them in writing a narrative about Frank N Stan. Mrs. Dixon is exceptionally proud of them all!

Autumn 1

Science - Rocks and Fossils

We spent Autumn 1 term learning all about Rocks and Fossils. Did you know that there are 3 types of rocks? Metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary!

Take a look at our class display which showcases some of our fantastic work and all of our knowledge nuggets.

History - Stone Age

In Autumn 1, we began our History learning journey back in the Stone Age. We ventured through the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods learning so many things along the way!!

Below are our class displays.
