# 20th January

Starter:

1. 14 + 3 =
2. 20 – 5 =
3. 22 – 1 =
4. 50 + 5 =
5. What is the missing number? 2, 4, 6, __ , 10
6. Which number comes before 15?
7. Add 31 cars to 4 cars.

LO: To know how to subtract with 2-digit numbers.

Today we are going to continue with subtracting a 2-digit number from another 2-digit number but this time we will be exchanging 1 ten for 10 ones.

You will need a pencil and square paper, your number square will also be helpful if needed (to help counting in tens).

Let’s work out 32 – 15 =

First we are going to draw chips and peas.

Remember we only need to draw the first number when subtracting. First we need to take away the ones. So 2 – 5 (there are not enough ones in 32 to take 5 away).

So we now need to exchange 1 ten for ten one.

I have crossed out a ten and exchanged for 10 ones, like this: I can now take 5 ones away like this: Have a go at these, then check the answers.

34 – 16 =           35 – 17 =       27 – 18 =      30 – 18 =      46 – 27 =

31 – 17 =         42 – 24 =         31 – 14 =       42 – 25 =     40 – 31 =

If you found these ok, have a go at these:

68 – 39 =      82 – 45 =       61 – 33 =    50 – 34 =
