LO: To know how to subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number using a number line.

Today we are going to look at subtracting a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number using number lines.

You will need a pencil and square paper.

We will look at working out 38 – 9 =

First we will draw a number line and jump back 9

Draw number lines to work out:

23 – 7 =                         54 – 3 =                   43 – 7 =

51 – 6 =                        46 – 8 =                    37 – 9 =

Remember to put the largest number at the end of the number line and jump back the smallest number.

Here is another example:

Challenge:

Bertie has 31 treats, he gives 6 to Max.

How many treats does he have left?

Write out the number sentence then show your working out on a number line.
